TURA: Organizations from South Garo Hills including the GSU, Baghmara Citizens Forum (BCF), AAYF, ADE, FKJGP and the college students’ union of Baghmara have strongly condemned the recent cold blooded killing of an elderly man by the GNLA at Dambuk Aga in South Garo Hills.

Four GNLA militants had on Tuesday night, called the victim, Olget R Marak out of his house and persuaded him to go with them on the pretext of showing them directions. Marak’s bullet ridden body was later found near the main road, less than 1.5 Km from the international border at Dambuk.

The said organizations while terming the killing as an ‘act of terror’ have announced a public rally on August 8 at 11 am and urged all citizens to participate in the protest.

“Pa Marak was an innocent man who was always religiously active. The brutal and merciless killing of such a person by the GNLA is strongly condemnable,” the organisations said while expressing deep condolence to the bereaved family.

On the night of the killing the GNLA had left behind a note claiming that Marak had been executed for being a police informer with a warning that the same fate would fall on others who worked against the outfit.

However, police had rubbished the claim and blamed it on outfit chief, Sohan’s frustration over several setbacks at the hands of the police in recent weeks and months.
