GUWAHATI: In two separate operations, troops of Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended five Indian cattle smugglers from the International boundary of under South Salmara district of Assam on intervening night of 01/02 August.
In the first operation, on August 1 at about 1935 hours a joint Operations was launched by BSF troops of BOP Diara of 57 Bn BSF and Police team of PS Mankachar, in general area of village Charaigaon under South Salmara district of Assam. Party saw suspicious movement of cattle smugglers and challenged them to surrender. They tried to escape to village Charaigaon, but one cattle smuggler was apprehended by the party. He has been identified as Md. Sayed (35) of Choraigram village under Mankachar police station of South Salmara (Assam). He has been indulged in smuggling activities since long time.
In the second operation, on August 2 at about 0200 hours, BSF troops of BOP Jhalachar of 57 Battalion along with the police team of Mankachar PS, in general area of Village Kesar vita under South Salmara District of Assam launched a joint operation on specific information. Troops laid ambush and observed some suspicious movement of cattle smugglers along with cattle heads. They challenged them to stop but smugglers tried to escape towards Village Kesar vita in deferent directions along with cattle heads. However, alerted troops apprehended four cattle smugglers after hot pursuit along with four cattle heads and improvised Bamboo Jhula for smuggling of cattle over Border fence. Apprehended cattle smugglers were identified as namely Kobad Hussain (30 years), Ayub Nabi @ Lambu (22 years), Riyazul (38), Mausa Slim (32). All are residents of village Kesharvitta under Mankachar Police Station of South Salmara ditricts (Assam). They have been handed over to PS Mankachar, distt South Salmara (Assam) for further legal action.
The BSF troops of Guwahati Frontier also seized 104 cattle heads having approximate value of Rs. 3,78,580 and miscellaneous items amounting Rs.7,77,250 on the intervening night of 2/3 August.
