SHILLONG: Haviva Passah, the woman who filed a complaint of harassment by South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai, said on Sunday that there was no political motive behind her FIR as alleged by the legislator.
Passah said the complaint was filed because of the serious nature of harassment against her, the visitors at the guest house and the staff by a public representative, who is supposed to protect the people.
“There is no element of politics. He (MLA) barged into the Stay Four Seasons guest house, Bishnupur and threw the luggage of the candidates who came for army recruitment on August 2. He even asked them to get out and harassed them even while they were having food. The worst was the luggage of the tourists, who were staying upstairs, were also thrown out”, said Passah.
Passah, who was out of station, met Shullai at his official residence on August 4 evening to inquire about the matter.

Unhappy over the stand of the legislator, she filed a complaint.
However, the counter FIR filed by Shullai alleged that when he was at his residential office on August 4, three persons including Passah, forcibly entered with an ill motive to tarnish his image and, without any provocation, threatened him in front of his staff and tried to attack him with a dangerous weapon.
However, denying this, Passah said there were a few others who were already there to meet him besides his staff when she met Shullai and the question of attacking him did not arise.
The woman said if she had ever attacked the legislator, his PSO would have prevented her and protected him.
“In fact, it is the legislator who used force and pushed me and if the PSO of the legislator had not helped me, I would have fallen on the ground with injuries”, she said.
Passah also alleged that the stand of the police was also discouraging as the officer of the Laban police station discouraged her from filing the FIR.
“The officer told me that if I file an FIR, the MLA will also file a complaint mentioning threat to life which came to a reality when he filed a counter FIR”, she said.
