Section 144 Cr.P.C. promulgated in East Khasi Hill

SHILLONG: The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, in exercise of power conferred upon him has promulgated Section 144 Cr.P.C. prohibiting any person or persons holding spontaneous black flag demonstration and burning of effigies without permission wherein there is a possibility that some NGOs may hold spontaneous black flag demonstration and may resort to other activities which may result in breakdown of law and order in the district, according to a government communique.

Obstructing of any vehicular movement in the area around the place of the function being attended by VVIPs, carrying of arms and any other lethal weapons or any other item/material having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely cause grievous injury or harm to any person or persons in and around the city and the entire district is also prohibited.

This order will not be applicable to the Security Forces on duty. In view of the urgency of the matter, this order is being passed exparte and it shall come into force with immediate effect until withdrawn.
