SHILLONG: Senior Congress leaders Deborah C. Marak and Ronnie V. Lyngdoh have lashed out at BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli for his comment that things are ‘shaky’ in the state Congress. The duo said there was no threat of any leader leaving the party.
“How will he know what is happening in the Congress family? He should mind his own business and look after his own party. We know how to look after our own party,” Marak said.
On Kohli’s stand that a non-Congress government is certain in Meghalaya, the minister said, “Let people be the judge as the Congress has done so much under the leadership of Mukul Sangma.”
Defending the inauguration spree of the chief minister, ministers and MLAs, Marak said it was up to the electorate to judge the party’s performance.
“The inaugurations are the fruits of four years of achievements of the Congress. It is the right time to inaugurate what we have done in four years what we have done and we show it… BJP has not done anything in the state, they don’t have a single legislator, let them contest first and see how many of them will win… Congress will fight in 60 seats. People are seeing what the government is doing,” she added.

Meanwhile, Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V. Lyngdoh said voters are conscious enough on whom to cast their votes.
“Meghalaya is not UP (Uttar Pradesh). We are conscious people and the electorate also cast their votes consciously. I don’t think the electorate here would vote for a party (BJP) which is creating an atmosphere of intolerance, be it food habits or attack on religious institutions,” he said.
Rubbishing Kohli’s claim that many Congress leaders are in talks with BJP, Lyngdoh said, “No Congress legislator will join BJP as they know that people will not vote for a party that promotes communal tensions and divides by dictating someone’s food habits and religious beliefs.”
Echoing Lyngdoh, Marak said she was not aware of such development. “Who has informed BJP about the leaders deserting the party? They should make it public. Why speculate?”
