SHILLONG: The State Government is planning to set up another medical college at Pasteur Hills, Lawmali, with central assistance even as the one proposed at Upper Mawprem five years ago is yet to become a reality.
An official source said on Thursday that the Government is preparing a proposal to be submitted to the Centre for a new medical college at Lawmali.
“Land for the proposed college on the present campus of NIFT at Pasteur Hills has been identified and NIFT will be shifted to Mawdiangdiang,” the official added.
The new medical college will be on a funding pattern of 90 percent from the Centre and 10 percent from the State.
“We will send our proposal to the Centre soon,” the official added.
The space identified for the earlier medical college at Upper Mawprem was on the premises of the existing Reid Chest TB Hospital.
The Government had signed an agreement with KPC Group five years ago to build the college on a public-private partnership mode.
The plan to shift the TB hospital to Mawdiangdiang is yet to materialise though the buildings were constructed to accommodate the patients.
