Agartala, Aug 11 (UNI) Tension mounted due to student unrest in interior localities of Kanchanpur subdivision in North Tripura following death of two tribal girl students of Class X standard in the hostel – one by committing suicide and another in malaria.
Police arrested the hostel superintendent Mitali Saha of Durgaram Reangpara Class XII School in Dashda from her residence. The court yesterday sent her to eight days jail custody after she was booked under sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 of Indian Penal Code.
According to police, Chirabati Reang (17), a student of the school has been lodging in the hostel attached to the school was found hanging in her hostel room. The incident triggered tension as other hostel inmates alleged that the superintendent Mitali Saha had ill-treated Chirabati.
The students, backed by fellows from other nearby schools, took out processions to protest the abetment to suicide and finally Mitali Saha was arrested yesterday.
In another incident Henarung Reang (16), a student of class X in remote Ananda Bazar HS School was died of malaria in the school hostel.
Sources The fellow inmates alleged, Henarung had fallen sick much earlier but the hostel superintendent took no step to have her treated by a doctor.
Finally when her condition turned critical Henarung admitted to Kanchanpur hospital but by then she was in dying condition and breathed her last in the hospital. The death has sparked high tension as students hold the hostel super responsible.
Meantime, opposition Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) has been demonstrating against the officials of the education department alleging that due to callousness and poor performance of the administration the girls were died, which triggered tension.
On the other, BJP demonstrated in Kanchanpur hospital complaining poor healthcare infrastructure and inadequate doctors available in the hospital, which the alleged the reason of sufferings of the people. UNI
