Imphal, Aug 11 (UNI) Mass combing operations were carried out in various parts of the state as a security measure for the ensuing Independence day celebrations.
Police lined up people to verify their credentials. Those who could not produce documents were taken to police station. So far over 500 men and 100 women have been picked up for police verification. Vehicles were stopped and frisked.
Hynniutrep National liberation Council (HNLC), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO), Kanglei Yawol kanna Lup (KYKL), National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), National Liberation Front Twipra (NLFT) and People’s Democratic Council of Karbilongri (PDCK) called for total shut-down of the entire region for 12 hours from 6 AM to 6 PM .
A joint statement of the outfits said , “India was a massive sub-continent inhabited by a number of diverse communities, most of which were large enough to be independent nation-states. With the departure of colonial masters, the new country embarked upon an ambitious project of occupation of the rim-lands, through every possible means, political and military.”
To resist occupation and hegemony, almost all communities of this WESEA region have risen up in arms and armed struggle is still going on it was stated.
