Programme on open defecation held

TURA: A ‘Week of freedom from open defecation, a programme under the Swachh Bharat Mission was organized by the Public Health Engineering Department on Friday at Rangku Memorial Girls’ Secondary School, Baghmara in South Garo Hills.

During the programme, District Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), S N Marak highlighted the issues relating to various health and sanitation methods while at the same time, appealed to the gathering to cooperate with the government in its efforts at maintaining total sanitation.

Informing that over three thousand toilets have been constructed last year, she said that efforts were being made by the government to make all villages free of open defecation by December this year.

Among those present on the occasion included Executive Engineer of PHE Baghmara  and Member Secretary, DWSM, V W Momin.

Competitions for school children like extempore speech, painting and quiz were also organized as part of the programme.
