GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday attended the swearing-in ceremony of Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu as the 13th Vice President of India at the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

Minutes after the swearing-in, Chief Minister Sonowal congratulated Naidu on his assumption of office as the new Vice President of India.

Extending his warm greetings for an eventful and fruitful tenure, Sonowal exuded the optimism that with Naidu assuming the office of Vice-President, the edifice of democracy would be further strengthened and the nation-building process would get a major boost.

Sonowal also recounted Naidu’s relentless service to the society through strong advocacy of the rights of the weaker section of the society and said that Assam and the Northeast would find a strong voice in him for highlighting the issues of the region at different fora.

The Chief Minister also hoped that the country would immensely benefit from Naidu’s vast experience of public life and in-depth knowledge of parliamentary rules and regulations.

“His repertoire of knowledge and understanding of the Constitution will immensely benefit the nation in the days ahead”, Sonowal stated.

Lauding Naidu’s eventful tenure as Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, and Information and Broadcasting, Sonowal said, “Naiduji had always kept the Northeast at the forefront of his initiatives, and as Vice President he will continue to keep the region close to his heart in expediting its journey towards growth and development.”
