Villages keen to register for health cover

SHILLONG: The Pomlakrai Area Employment Council (AEC) and Village Employment Council (VEC) have agreed to take the enrolment of Megha Health Insurance Scheme –III (MHIS-III) seriously after the enrollment for MHIS-II was found to be very less.
John F Kharshiing, co-chairman of the Meghalaya State Planning Board (MSBP), said the enrollment in Pomlakrai-Mylliem was only 3.58 percent under MHIS-II. Besides, Mylliem Block, he said, had 23.29 percent people enrolled whereas Mawphlang Block had enrolled 57.35 percent for MHIS-II (2015-2016).
The decision on the enrollment plan for MHIS-III, was taken in a meeting of the Meghalaya State Planning Board, Working Group –III, held at AEC Building, Mylliem Syiemship recently, in which members of six village employment councils falling under the jurisdiction of Pomlakrai AEC, attended. The VECs include Mawbynna village employment council, Pdeng Shnong , Rngi Shillong , Liewlong, Umiew and Mawtharia VEC besides residents of villages under Umsaw Gram Sevak circle under Mylliem C&RD Block, East Khasi Hills district.
Barely a month after the third phase of the MHIS-III was rolled out, claims amounting to over one crore rupees have been settled according to Health Department sources.
