SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) visited the Observation Home for Boys (OHB) at Cleve Colony in the city on Wednesday to inspect the operation of Juvenile Justice custodial facilities for six districts of Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
MHRC said the home should ensure that each juvenile delinquent is provided a minimum standard of service and that the successful return to the community should be the primary goal.
Besides interacting with the staff and enquiring into their shortcomings and grievances, the MHRC members also inspected the living conditions, including infrastructure and recreational facilities, of inmates.
The home presently runs from a rented space and will be relocated to New Shillong Township by September.
MHRC observed that despite severe constraints, the officers and staff of the home had made optimum use of the resources of the Government.
The MHRC members interacted with all the inmates and found them to be in good spirits.
On this day, PJP Hanaman, Member of Human Rights Commission, was accompanied by Aldous Mawlong, Secretary of MHRC and Officers of the Directorate of Social Welfare Department.
