SHILLONG: The meetings between the chief secretaries of Assam and Meghalaya on border dispute will take place soon.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations in Polo on Tuesday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the disputed pockets along the Assam-Meghalaya border are being monitored continuously and efforts are on to resolve it at the highest administrative level.
The chief ministers of the neighbouring states held talks on the issue in Guwahati on April 1.
“The administrations at the district and local levels have, on several occasions, actively resolved problems and diffused situations in the disputed areas along the border,” he said.
On the fencing of the Indo-Bangladesh boundary, he said the state government is committed to complete the remaining fencing on the international border with Bangladesh at a fast pace to effectively contain illegal migration of foreign nationals and trans-border movement of militants and anti-social elements.
