NONGPOH: Participants of a public meeting here on Thursday demanded immediate transfer of Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner C.P Gotmare and district superintendent of police Ramesh Singh for their alleged failure to settle issues regarding the railway project and maintain law and order in the district.
Expressing concern at the prevailing unrest in the district in the aftermath of protests against the railway project, the participants alleged that the district heads were incapable of taking up the railway issue with the NGOs.
The meeting, held at Sajer Community Hall here, demanded the unconditional release of KSU activists who were arrested for arson while protesting against the project. They further called upon the administration to stop raiding the residences of activists suspected of being involved in the arson.
The participants decided to meet Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to demand the release of the arrested KSU activists and settle the issue. They resolved to resort to an agitation in the near future if the government did not pay heed to their demand. The meeting further objected to the raids by Ri Bhoi police on the residences of KSU activists late at night. The participants also decided to meet the representatives of all the five constituencies in Ri Bhoi.
