TURA: The secretary of a village employment council (VEC) in Ampati in South West Garo Hills is facing charges of forging names to withdraw job card payments.
Villagers of Duguripara have alleged that the VEC secretary was taking the money against names of people who have already expired and also denied jobs to eligible candidates.
This came to light after an RTI was filed by Bellu Miah of the same village. The secretary has withdrawn wages for Sobia Bewa, who died 10 years ago, and Muslima Bewa, who expired three years ago. The villagers have urged the DC to probe into the matter.
