Book on practice of herbal medicine released

SHILLONG: Grassroots, Shillong recently completed the documentation of ‘A study on empowering women for sustaining the practice of edible medicinal herb enhancing food security in Meghalaya’.
The documentation is a part of fulfilling the SDG 2030 on zero hunger indicator 2.3, good health and well being in reality.
As part of Grassroots’ objectives to uphold, preserve and strengthen tradition and culture, the documentation was published as a book. 32 women practitioners and 10 male practitioners were present during the event.
The book documents the practices of these women and encourages young people to take up entrepreneurship. R. M Mishra, CEO of the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) released the book in the presence of the practitioners and reiterated that as much as there is a need for entrepreneurship in this venture; one must not forget one’s roots and the value of prayer. He also encouraged better packaging of products.
The release of this book is to also encourage documentation which will enable the passing on of wisdom from one generation to the other ensuring that continuity of knowledge.
