Margao: Salgaocar Sports Club and Churchill Brothers were locked in a 1-1 draw and shared points in the seventh round of I-League clash at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Thursday.
N D Opara drew first blood for Churchill in the 49th minute only for Chidi Edeh to pull it back for Salgaocar in the 72nd minute.
Churchill now moved to third spot with 14 points from 7 matches, while Salgaocar moved to eight points from equal number of matches.
Meanwhile, Mandjou Keita and Othallo Tabia gave Pune FC the much-needed victory after three back-to-back losses as they scored their second win in seven matches beating Air India 2-0 in the I-League at the Balewadi Stadium in Pune.
Scoring in different halves, Keita and Tabia were hallmark of Pune FC’s resolve that came from their brand new on-loan goalkeeper Abhra Mondal, who underlined the need for strong hand under the bar.
Keita converted a penalty-kick in the 41st minute, while substitute Othallo Tabia scored in the 70th to complete the tally.
The win provided Pune FC a lift from 11th to ninth position as they now have eight points from seven matches.
Chirag, Pailan share points
Two bottom ranked teams Chirag United Kerala and Pailan Arrows shared point after they held 1-1 in I-League’s 7th round play at Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Thursday.
The visitors took the lead with a goal from Saba Saleel in the 30th minute but soon they were reduced to 10 players after their defender Charles Dzisa was given the marching orders.The home team brought in the equaliser in the 53rd minute but the All India Football Federation developmental side could not take advantage.The Kerala outfit now has four points, while Arrows moved to three points.
