Assam Rifles denies abuse incident

SHILLONG: The Directorate General of Assam Rifles has denied that Deepak Kumar Das (26) and Govind Thakur (27) are from the Assam Rifles.
In response to the news item in this regard which was based on Meghalaya police website, the Public Relations Officer of Assam Rifles said on Tuesday that its personnel are not directly or indirectly involved in any incident, where a woman shopkeeper was allegedly abused at Assam Rifles Bazar, Happy Valley.
However, the police website had on Monday stated that Commandant of Assam Rifles informed Madanrting police station over phone that two AR personnel, Das and Thakur had sustained injuries and were being sent for medical examination in their unit hospital.
