Dorphang case: Minor rape victim deposes in court

SHILLONG: The minor victim girl who was allegedly raped by Mawhati legislator Julius Dorphang was examined by the court here on Tuesday.
Sources said 43 witnesses are to be examined in the court and it would take a long time. Prior to the victim, only chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Meena Kharkongor was examined.
Dorphang, a former leader of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council, was elected from Mawhati Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) in 2013 election.
MLA Dorphang faces charge of rape of the minor girl in a guest house in the city and in a resort in Ri Bhoi last year.
After absconding for many days the MLA was arrested from the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Guwahati. He is still in the custody of Meghalaya police.

 

Gowda to visit city tomorrow

SHILLONG: Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation DV Sadananda Gowda will visit Shillong for two days from Thursday.
There will be official meetings at Hotel Pinewood to review the status of the Central programmes on Thursday.
The Union minister will also review MP schemes and interact with them.
Presentation and review of steel, railways, road transport and health projects will also be carried out on the occasion.
Gowda will also meet Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in the evening.
The next morning, he will attend a public meeting on three years’ achievements of the NDA government.
