SHILLONG: Though Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is eyeing Songsak seat besides his Ampati constituency, sitting NPP legislator from Songsak Nihim D Shira said on Tuesday that the love of the people will help him secure the seat.
Media reports had said the chief minister would contest from two seats in the 2018 polls.
“People know me and they still love me as I am with them for the last many years. How can a person who has come just four months before the polls seek the mandate of the people,” Shira said when asked to comment on the chief minister’s plan to contest from Songsak.
However, comparing the contest between him and the chief minister to David and Goliath, Shira said he is confident of registering a win thanks to people’s support.
According to Shira, the Congress is not in a position to come back to power in Meghalaya in the next polls and added that NPP will secure maximum seats from Garo Hills, besides some seats from Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
The NPP legislator also rubbished rumours that he was planning to join the Congress.
