SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Transport Corporation Workers’ Union (MTCWU), which has been protesting against the State Government’s inaction in releasing their arrears and their salaries, has decided to launch a three-day total strike from Monday.
No bus would ply from Shillong and the railway ticket counter would also remain closed during the three-day shutdown, the Union informed on Friday.
Meanwhile, the MTCWU staged a dharna from 1-3 pm on the premises of the MTC campus here on Friday.
The MTCWU has been agitating since Monday to pressurize the State Government to yield to their demands of immediate disbursement of their salary which has been pending for four months and release of the 30 per cent of the remaining arrears.
Speaking to reporters on the sideline of the dharna, MTCWU general secretary K Rumnong said they have been working for the last four month without salary and it was high time that the Government paid the same attention to them as it does with other government employees.
“We have not even received the 30 per cent of the arrear whereas other government employees have already received the arrears along with the 40 per cent arrears released last year,” he added.
