TURA: BJP Garo Hills unit has alleged that flood relief has failed to reach all affected villages.
A delegation of BJP leaders led by state vice president Edmund K Sangma and state organising secretary Jagdamba Mall visited the flood-affected areas in Selsella, Rajabala, Singimari, Bhaitbari, Phulbari and Tikrikilla. They also distributed food among the displaced people.
Sangma, after the survey, said the government was slow to react to the plight of people. “There are as many as seven villages under Tikrikilla community and rural development block where relief has not reached,” he added.
The party further alleged that seven more flood-hit villages in Mahendraganj constituency of South West Garo Hills have been neglected. “In many affected areas, people are facing shortage of drinking water because springs and wells have been inundated by flood waters,” said BJP that sent its team to several relief camps.
“Our party will submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking compensation for farmers who have lost their standing crops because the cultivation season is almost over.
Farmers will have nothing to fall back on next year,” cautioned the BJP delegation.
