SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has sent an RTI application to the Public Information Officer of the Urban Affairs Department seeking reply on the mushrooming of hawkers in the city.
KHNAM said prime junctions like Khyndailad and Bethany Junction Laitumkhrah are occupied by hordes of hawkers who are ‘illegal immigrants’ and are encroaching on the already congested sidewalks.
It sought a query from the PIO as to who is responsible for granting permission to the hawkers and if the municipal is in control of these hawkers, it has requested for further details on date of granting permission with tenure, whether police verification is done, among other things.
Further, the KHNAM youth wing has asked for details of year-wise revenue generation from April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2017, in case of Khyndailad (Police Bazaar).
