TURA: Several hundred employees of the Garo Hills Autonomus District Council (GHADC) who have been reeling without their monthly salaries for the last eleven months have decided to go on a two-day strike from Monday which also coincides with the start of the budget session of the council.

The unpaid employees will hold their sit-in dharna in front of the office premises on Monday and Tuesday in protest against the non-release of their salaries for the last eleven months.

Concerned over a possible hampering of the office work during the upcoming budget session of the district council, beginning on Monday itself, the chief executive member (CEM) Boston Marak has directed the employees to call off their proposed strike and attend to their duties since the crucial budget session is taking place.

The GHADC has been plagued with widespread financial mismanagement over the last many years as a result of which salaries of the employees have been getting delayed for months every year.
