SHILLONG/NONGPOH: Meghalaya on Friday joined the rest of the country to make electoral registration digital. The state launched ERO-Net, a web-based application, in five districts.
In East Khasi Hills, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer PS Dkhar launched the application at DC office.
Addressing a gathering, Dkhar said the district “is going digital as far as enrolment of citizens is concerned”.
“The electoral process is going away from the traditional method and digitising it will make things easier,” he added.
In this connection, ERO-Net facilitates online submission of enrolment forms with supporting documents by visiting www.nvsp.in or www.ceomeghalaya.nic.in.
ERO-Net was also launched in Ri Bhoi, East Jaintia Hills, West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
In Nongpoh, Additional Deputy Commissioner D. Phawa launched the app.
Phawa said the main objective of ERO-Net is to bring in seamless processing of forms, easy handling of database, and regular and simpler ways of monitoring electoral rolls.
“It links all Election Returning Officers (EROs) of the nation, unified national photo electoral rolls and access to citizen electoral services and the overall scope of ERO-Net is to develop a web-based system for electoral officials,” she added.
ERO-Net provides facility to search for electoral names, polling stations and serial numbers in electoral rolls, among other things.
Another advantage of ERO-Net is EPIC portability that facilitates migration from one constituency to another while retaining the same EPIC number.
With the new app, the government also intends to prevent duplicity during migration of electors from one constituency to another.
