SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Nongthymmai circle, organised a signature campaign at Fire Brigade on Friday for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP).
John Lyngdoh, vice president of HYC Shillong City, said the pressure group was taking peaceful methods to push forward its movement of ‘Save Hynniewtrep Mission’.
“However, we notice that the state government is indifferent to our demands. It seems that the state government wants war,” he said.
Lyngdoh warned that things might go out of control if the youth lose patience and this would, in turn, prompt the government to take action against them and book them under various sections of the law.
Tiewsoh Kharjahrin, president of HYC Nongthymmai circle, threatened to agitate against MLA Jemino Mawthoh and MDC Latiplang Kharkongor if the public representatives refuse to support the demands of the organisation.
Some of the placards that were put up read, ‘We choose identity over development.
Implement ILP in Meghalaya’, ‘Mukul Sangma, by inaugurating foundation stone, you did nothing great..you simply took our money (tax and fine) and return the same to us. Stop fooling us but do something important by legislating law, i.e. ILP’.
