Guwahati: A shradhanjali programme to pay tributes to legendary musician and film-maker Dr Bhupen Hazarika was held at the Nehru Centre, the Cultural Wing of Indian High Commission, at London recently.
The shradhanjali programme, initiated by Rini Kakati, NRI Assam Co-ordinator for UK, saw the participation of Jitendra Kumar, First secretary of Indian High Commission (Consular and Community Affairs), Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, Counsellor Secretary – Bangladesh High Commission, Kailash Budhwar of BBC Hindi Service, Rita Payne, Chair of the Commonwealth Journalists’ Association (UK) and editorial director of Global magazine and Ashis Ray of The Times of India.
The programme also witnessed the rendition of Dr Hazarika’s ‘Manush Manusher Jonno’ by Shahadt Hossain and Gopa Bose, a release informed here on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, the Assamese community in London had gathered on the banks of the Thames river and immersed the ashes of Dr Hazarika, amidst chanting of prayers and ‘naam kirtan’.
Dr Hazarika had died of multiple organ failure at the age of 85 at a Mumbai hospital on November five. (UNI)
