Guwahati: The military chief and three cadres of a newly-floated outfit, formed by a group of unemployed educated youth as a source of income, were arrested from Assam’s North Lakhimpur district on Friday night. Police arrested the four ultras, including a woman, when they had come to collect extortion money from a local businessman. Those arrested include the self-styled c-in-c of the outfit Assam Tribal Commando, Pinku Daimary, and all three cadres the outfit has enlisted so far.

Two pistols, bullets, a set of binoculars, clothing materials and stationery with the outfit’s name printed on it were recovered from them.

Daimary, talking to local television channels, said he had formed the outfit after unsuccessfully hunting for a job following completion of his formal education.

He claimed to have paid bride to an army lieutenant but was handed a fake appointment letter, which led him to take the final decision to form a militant outfit.

”I wanted the outfit to help youths like me earn money for livelihood. After serving in the outfit, the youths could have surrendered and benefited from the money the government gives for rehabilitation of former ultras,” Daimary added. (UNI)
