Students’ body irked over delay in declaration of results

From Our Correspondent

TURA: Southern zone unit of GSU from South Garo Hills district is at loggerheads with the Deputy Commissioner of the district over delay in announcing results of various interviews conducted by the District Selection Committee (DSC) and is seeking a new head for the district.

The Union has once again written to the State Chief Secretary asking for the appointment of a new district chief and warned that the Union will not cooperate with next month’s Tyisam winter festival in Baghmara unless their grievances are met.

The GSU claims that the Deputy Commissioner is delaying the results of the DSC examinations without any reason.

“One of the members from the DSC, who are political appointees, has declared that the list is already ready for candidates who passed the examination but the DC who is chairman of DSC has not recognized the list which is why there is a delay,” claimed GSU leader Prosper S Marak from Baghmara.

Deputy Commissioner, Dr BDR Tiwari, was unavailable for his comment on the allegations.

The student union, in the meantime, held a public meeting at Baghmara Captain Williamson Memorial Government college with other NGOs and citizens of Baghmara criticizing the Deputy Commissioner for the delay.

The Union has cautioned that it will not cooperate with next month’s winter festival ‘Tyisam’ scheduled for December 14-15 which is expected to be a mega fest that will see participation by several hundred locals and tourists who will witness the rich flora and fauna of the region.
