SHILLONG: The transparent recruitment process in the Police Department as claimed by the Meghalaya Government has come under the scanner as the government had provided bonus marks aimed at favouring some candidates.
During the hearing of the recruitment case on Friday in the High Court of Meghalaya, Justice SR Sen said he cannot understand why the authorities should give five bonus marks to candidates if they are indeed sincere and want the recruitment process to be transparent.
“Has the provision been incorporated just to favour and disfavour some candidates at the whim and will of the authority concerned, which is highly illegal because I have observed that in the State of Meghalaya, we have sufficient number of efficient and intelligent candidates, therefore no question of bonus marks arises,” the judge added.
In the advertisement it was mentioned that there will be bonus marks of five.
The bonus marks of five will be added to the total score of the candidates for the post of Home Guards Volunteers who are holders of National Cadet Corps certificate, children of non-gazetted police personnel of Meghalaya Police, sports persons who have represented the State at the national level.
