SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Saturday evening dissolved the Pynursla Block Congress Committee and elected new members of thecommittee with H Khongthani as the new president.

The MPCC also entrusted Khongthani to elected other members of the block Congress.

Reports about dissolution of the Block Congress committee came a day after, it’s MDC from Lyngkyrdem – Laitkroh, Jansing M Tynsong, pledged support to suspended Congress member and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Chief Executive Member, Pynshngainlang N Syiem.

Pynrursla Assembly constituency is represented by senior Congress legislator Prestone Tynsong who was dropped from the State Cabinet recently in a reshuffle effected by the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.

The MPPC had already dissolved block Congress committees in Mawkyrwat and Umroi Assembly constituencies, both being represented by Congress MLA, Rowell Lyngdoh and Ngaitlang Dhar, respectively.

Sources on Saturday informed that the MPCC wanted to remove all the close aide of Tynsong who are leading the BCC at present. Sources also revealed that there was an attempt on the part of the MPCC to rope in new faces into the party.

Sources further revealed that the MPCC’s move was sort of confirmation of the speculations that Tynsong was planning to leave Congress and would contest the Assembly elections 2018 in the State from another party.

Moreover, with Pynursla Congress MDC, Jansing Tynsong offering his uncontitional support to the PN Syiem-led Executive Committee in the KHADC only reaffirms the plan of the sitting Congress legislator from Pynursla to leave the party.

Meanwhile, the ruling Congress in Meghalaya  will know from September 15 onwards, who from among its sitting legislators will still want to contest on party ticket in the Assembly election . The party has started distributing application forms  since Friday  to aspirants for party ticket for the Assembly polls from all the 60 Assembly constituencies. The forms will be distributed till September 15. The party ticket aspirants will have to submit their application forms through respective Block Congress Committees latest by October 4 next. The same will be forwarded to the MPCC by November 22 next.

The ruling party’s move to distribute application came at a time when reports suggested that some sitting Congress legislators would leave the party, and seek re-election from other political parties from their respective constituencies.

Sources said that the AICC through the Central Election Committee would take a call on the names of aspirants who seek for Congress ticket from all the 60 seats, adding that after proper assessment, the party high command will release the list of all 60 candidates at one go.

Sources said that the AICC wanted the process related to selection of candidates to complete early for the upcoming Assembly poll so that it can also announce the candidates at least by January next year, instead of declaring at the eleventh hour as in the past elections.
