SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has given three months’ time to authorities concerned to frame building bye laws for the cantonment area.
Taking note of earlier submissions, the court said the matter was already delayed and needed to be expedited. It asked the authorities concerned to give top priority to the matter. The writ petition has been listed on November 3.
The High Court, in its order on August 1, said the Chief Executive Officer of the Shillong Cantonment Board has filed another application stating the steps being taken at the levels of the board and the Centre for finalising new bye laws but sought more time because the process was lengthy.
The matter is being discussed in the High Court after the Shillong Cantonment Lease Holders’ Association, a registered body, filed a writ petition for redressal of the grievances of the lessees and resident of the areas.
The writ petition was filed against lack of initiative in framing suitable building bye laws under the Cantonment Act, 2006, and non-sanction or approval of new building plans submitted by residents.
