Mukul, Sarbananda discuss med seat row

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Monday spoke to his Assam counterpart Sarbananda Sonowal about the denial of admission to 10 medical aspirants from Meghalaya in colleges in the neighbouring state.
In a statement, Sangma said the government has taken serious note of the medical seat issue which will affect several students and called for a mutual resolution.

“The government has directed the chief secretary to immediately seek intervention of the Supreme Court and we look forward to a favourable resolution to the matter,” he added.
Sonowal assured Sangma that the problem would be addressed.
“He has assured me that he would speak to his principal secretary of Health,” Sangma said and added, “I have also informed my counterpart that talks at the chief secretary and the additional chief secretary levels are already underway to address the matter that could have been easily avoided.”
Legal experts and bureaucrats from the state are already in Delhi to file a petition in the Supreme Court.
