NONGSTOIN: FKJGP has lodged a complaint directly to the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills following an RTI filed by the federation against the contractors who engaged in the blacktopping of the 8km road from Nongstoin to Sangriang.
The RTI filed by the FKJGP Greater Nongkhnum Circle stated that the Nongstoin road to Sangriang was sanctioned in 2008 where one contractor completed only 1 km while the remaining five contractors are yet to start construction.
Shanbor Rynshiang, president of the FKJGP greater Nongkhnum circle, said in a press statement issued on Tuesday that according to the RTI, all the contractors who engaged in the blacktopping of the said road were cancelled and in 2014 the construction was allotted to Brington K Bani and Hubert K Bani. The cost of the blacktopping was over Rs 64.17 lakh. However, it was found that the contractors had only laid the first coat of the blacktopping with a running bill of over Rs 26.19 lakh.
Shanbor stated that the RTI revealed that the major part of the repaired road from Nongjyllieh to Lawse (3km) under the 13th Finance Commission of 2014 – 2015 worth Rs 15.88 lakh was not yet completed even after the PWD re-sanctioned Rs 5.88 lakh.
The federation expressed their concern over the slow progress of the blacktopping from Nongstoin–Sangriang to Nongkhnum Island (6km) which was sanctioned under PMGSY in 2013-14, and urged the contractor, Roni Nongsiej, to speed up the construction.
Shanbor further pointed out that tourism in the area is suffering due to the slow progress in the repairing of the road to Nongkhnum. The delay is also inconveniencing villagers.
