SHILLONG: Following a magisterial inquiry, the FKJGP, Williamnagar has sought intervention of the Government in the poor construction of a residential school at Kalak in Samanda Block, East Garo Hills District.
FKJGP filed a complaint to the government regarding the school, which was constructed by MGCC ltd, Shillong under the Model School Scheme of RMSA, as it is presently in a dilapidated condition. The inquiry conducted on March 8, by magistrate, SN Sangma, revealed that the building had several cracks running all over the structure which consists of 42 rooms and that there were no retaining walls on both sides of the building which posed a threat to the safety of the students.
Sangma in his probe report had stated that a technical enquiry should be initiated to ascertain the cause of cracks and remedial measures to prevent further damage. In this regard, the federation expressed doubt over the intentions of the contractors and said that the construction of the school building resulted in a waste of public money and time. Hence, it urged the government to direct the concerned department to recover the fund or to dismantle and reconstruct the residential school building.
In addition, FKJGP gave a seven- day ultimatum to the concerned department failing which, the federation would file a PIL.
