Keralites in Shillong celebrate Onam

SHILLONG: Keralites from all over Shillong converged at U Soso Tham Auditorium on Sunday to celebrate the Onam and Silver jubilee celebrations organized by Kalakairaly.

The programme was marked with several cultural performances which brought the rich cultural history of Malayalees.

Delivering the speech as chief guest, DD Lapang, advisor to the state government said that the state of Kerala has a very rich culture with Onam as the biggest and the most important festival.

According to him, people from Kerala are hardworking and adventurous.

Pointing about “three capsules” to the student community present in the function, he talked about presentability, dependability and humility.

On the occasion, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Shashi Tharoor sent a message which was read out by a member in which he stated that he was happy that Kalakairaly has reached 25 years in Shillong.

He termed the works of Kalakairaly, a socio-cultural organization of Malayalees in Shillong as ‘Malayali miracle’.

To mark the Silver Jubilee celebrations, a Silver jubilee souvenir was also released on this day, adding to the vibrant programme, the evening was marked with a performance by a Malayalam band, Triloka who arrived all the way from Mumbai.

It may be mentioned that Onam is the harvest festival celebrated all over the state of Kerela usually in the month of August-September (according to Gregorian calendar).
