SHILLONG: A day after around 500 people in Williamnagar joined Congress, the local MLA and senior Congress leader Deborah Marak has asserted that people in Garo Hills don’t look at anyone but Mukul Sangma as the tallest leader from Garo Hills.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Sunday, Marak said that people didn’t have any alternative except Congress and they were looking at Mukul Sangma as their tall leader and this was the reason that people were shifting their allegiance to Congress.
“I don’t think there is any other tall leader in Garo Hills now except Mukul Sangma,” she said.
While clarifying that Jonathan Sangma and Marcus Marak did not joined Congress but it was their supporters who joined Congress under her leadership, Marak added that many more of their supporters would also join Congress soon.
She even claimed that if Chief Minister contested from Songsak constituency, he would get more votes than he would get in Ampati constituency since people have a hope that if Mukul Sangma contests from Songak, they would have equal development like Ampati.
Terming Songsak as the most backward constituency in Meghalaya, Marak added that BJP had no chance of winning elections in Garo Hills and NPP exists only in few places.
