NONGSTOIN: Information and Public Relations Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh raised the issue of exodus of rural students urban area at the inauguration of the school week of St Thomas Higher Secondary School in Mairang on Monday.
Lyngdoh advocated the importance of building institutions of standard quality in rural areas to reduce expenses for parents who send their wards for studies in urban areas as well as providing quality education. The minister also recognised the achievement of St Thomas Higher Secondary School in drawing 1700 students in their roll.
She further added “extracurricular activities are as essential as normal studies in moulding a child’s future”.
The programme was also attended by Eureka L Mawlong, as guest of honour, Rev. Father Herodes, Principal of the school, FM Lakiang, SDO (C), Mairang Civil Sub Division, and members of the managing committee of the school.
On the side-line, a flower arrangement exhibition and science exhibition was also held.
