SHILLONG: Former minister AL Hek has finally broken his silence on the matter of his joining the BJP again, saying he would have to consult his “brother and sisters” in his constituency before going to his “mother”.
Hek has always referred to BJP as his mother organisation, one which has brought him into politics.
Speculations have been rife time and again about Hek rejoining the saffron party.
According to Hek, he would have to consult his supporters in his constituency before taking a call whether he should join BJP or not.
“Even when I joined Congress from BJP last time, I had called party leaders, and with their consent, I joined the Congress,” he said.
The former minister who was axed from the State Cabinet last year also said he would attend the inauguration of the new BJP office in Shillong if he was invited.“What is the harm if I am invited and I go to the programme,” he said.
Asked whether he would talk about political developments with BJP chief Amit Shah who is scheduled to inaugurate the office on September 28, Hek said there was no question of talking about politics and that he might attend the programme since the entire process of constructing the office began during his tenure as BJP president.
The statement has come from Hek at a time when seven MLAs from different political parties are set to meet Shah during his daylong visit.
It may be mentioned that two Independent MLAs, Justine Dkhar and Robinus Syngkon, had pledged to join the BJP recently.
