SHILLONG: The MCS Officers’ Association has evidently not done enough to push the Government to do all in its might to release its confrere – PK Boro, the Dadenggre Block Development Officer (BDO) who was abducted on November 21 last.

A weak statement appeared only in a section of the media. After that there has been no follow up worth the name. It has made several people wonder why the MCS officers have not shown any solidarity with their colleague or his family members.

The GNLA had abducted Boro at gun point from his office chamber. Two traders — Dulal Modak and Rokybul Haque were abducted from Kalchengpara weekly market. Both the areas fall under West Garo Hills district.

Besides issuing of a ritual condemnation statement to the press, the MCSOA has done nothing to demand the safe release of the BDO.

“It is really sad to see the association keeping silent on this matter. If it was in other States there would have been a hue and cry demanding his release,” an MCSOA member on condition of anonymity said.

He said the association could have at least pressurized the Government for the unconditional release of Boro.

“This silence is ominous as the same fate might befall other officers too. If the attitude is one of silent submission militants will take advantage of the silence,” many people observed.
