GUWAHATI: In two separate operations in Nagaland and Assam the Army along with state police personnel busted an extortion racket run by the banned NSCN (K) in Kohima in Nagaland while a camp of banned Kuki Liberation Front (KLF) was busted in East Karbi Anglong district of Assam. Total nine militants including eight from the NSCN-K were arrested following both the operations.
Security forces busted the extortion racket being run by the NSCN (K) cadres in Kohima and apprehended eight cadres of the outfit in two operations carried out in Kohima district on the night of September 16, according to Kohima based defence spokesman Colonel C Konwer.
Based on a tip-off about extortions being carried out by the NSCN (K) cadres in Kohima, the Army along with Nagaland police apprehended three militants who were threatening the local populace, vendors in an attempt to extort money. The apprehended militants were found in possession of one 7.56mm pistol, One .22 pistol along with eleven live rounds, challan slips and marijuana (50 gms).
The three apprehended NSCN-K cadres were identified as Hoshito Ayemi, L Majingmong Thiipori and Linpingthu Pachuri.
Based on the input given by the apprehended cadres Security Forces launched another operation along with police and apprehended four more cadres of NSCN (K) from a vehicle. They were identified as Bennilo Bukh, Adeo Kiewhuo, Neiktoula Kenguruse and Thejavinuo Theja.
In a separate operation the Army along with Assam Police on Sunday busted a hide out of the banned KLP outfit following arrest of the outfit’s publicity secretary, Lummilen Bey along with a pistol and ammunition from Sukhanjan Village in East Karbi Anglong District. He was wanted in many cases.
Getting a cue from the arrested KLF militant, the security forces busted a hide out of the outfit at nearby Mulhoi Village. Guwahati-based Defence spokesman Lt.Col. Suneet Newton informed that the camp comprising of a few huts was, however, found abandoned by the security personnel who recovered a country made rifle, rations and other survival stores.
