SHILLONG: Former KHNAM president Paul Lyngdoh would be formally appointed as working president cum spokesperson of the UDP on December 12, UDP sources informed on Wednesday.

The sources also informed that KHNAM MDC Latiplang Kharkongor and senior leader Michael War would be given the posts of assistant general secretaries. 15 KHNAM leaders would also be inducted as members of the UDP Central Executive Committee.

Besides these 15 members, the former KHNAM president and the three party MDCs would also be a part of the UDP CEC. KHNAM leader from Ri-Bhoi district Reynold Kharkamni would be given the post of chief organizer of the UDP Youth Wing.

The KHNAM members would be inducted into the UDP at a formal function on December 12.

Meanwhile, the dissident group of KHNAM led by general secretary Pyndapborthiaw Saiborne would write to the Election Commission on dissolution of the party without following the constitutional provision of the party.

“We are going to write a letter to the Election Commission within this week questioning the manner in which the party has been dissolved,” Saiborne told reporters here on Wednesday.

He added that they would also submit a copy of the letter to Chief Electoral Officer P Naik.

Saiborne claimed that as per the constitution, the party cannot be dissolved without being ratified by the General Executive Council (GEC).

He also alleged that KHNAM president Paul Lyngdoh has misled everyone by claiming that there was CEC meeting on October 26.

“The CEC had a meeting only on November 16 where a decision was taken to hold the General Council on November 26,” he said.

According to the party constitution, a minimum of one-month notice is required for convening of the General Council, he said, while adding that the resolution which was adopted by the General Council to dissolve the party is not legal since it does not meet the constitutional requirements of the party.

Saiborne further alleged that the organizing committee formed for convening of the General Council was a hand-picked one.

“The chairman and members of the committee were those people who were already in favour of the merger with the UDP,” he claimed.
