SHILLONG: Ending all speculation and delays, the first phase of the Myntdu Leshka Hydro Electric Project (MLHEP) was finally commissioned on November 23 with an output of 42 megawatt of power.

However, the commissioning is yet to be formally announced.

Confirming this to The Shillong Times on Wednesday, Chief Project Manager of MLHEP, Elias Lyngdoh, informed that technically the first unit of the power plant was on November 23 but it will be formally announced later this month.

“The preliminary exercise of spinning the machines and the synchronization works has been completed and at present 42 MW is being pumped out from the power plant,” Lyngdoh added.

While, stating that the present output of 42 MW is not enough to cater to the growing demand of power in the State, Lyngdoh said that the first unit will serve as a handy aid to the Umiam power plant which has a generation capacity of 185 MW.”
