TURA: The anticipatory bail granted to an absconding criminal in North Garo Hills has angered the general public including social groups given that the accused had duped a woman of two and a half lakh rupees.

The accused, Siljohn N Sangma, was given anticipatory bail by executive magistrate in Resubelpara, P K Boro, even though he has remained an absconder after abandoning the woman who is allegedly pregnant with his child.

The woman had filed a case against the accused over the relationship and also because he had duped her of Rs. 2.5 lakh.

“How can someone on the run and with a police complaint be granted bail,” questioned student leader Wilness Marak from North Garo Hills.

The decision of the magistrate P K Boro to grant anticipatory bail has not gone down well with some of the organizations that allege that the official had previously given bail to even a murder accused.

“Recently, the same magistrate had granted bail to a murder accused simply because the police charge sheet was filed three days late,” alleged student leader Wilness Marak while demanding the separation of the judiciary from the executive in North Garo Hills.

The organisations are planning to meet the deputy commissioner and the district police chief to protest the granting of bail for a murder accused by the executive magistrate.
