SHILLONG: Two organizations- Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) and Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR), have asked the Meghalaya Government to constitute an independent inquiry into the alleged abuse of official position and breach of service rules by IAS officer HM Shangpliang.

In a petition submitted to the Chief Secretary here on Wednesday, the two NGOs said that the officer had been found to have abused his official position in order to promote himself as a potential poll candidate for Mawsynram constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The NGOs also expressed surprise as the Government’s inquiry neither called them nor interviewed the people of Mawsynram   regarding the various activities of Shangpliang in order to distribute schemes and ambulances in the constituency.

The NGO leaders also said, “We urge you to ensure that he is not rewarded for his illegal action by way of being granted VRS but that he should be summarily suspended and eventually dismissed from service and all his benefits withdrawn.”
