IIT-G Prof to study Ranganadi project to mitigate impact of release of excess water

 GUWAHATI: A high-level that discussed the issue of devastating flood that had occurred recently in Lakhimpur district in Assam due to release of surplus water from Ranganadi Hydel Project here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Assam’s Chief Secretary V K Pipersenia, entrusted Professor Arup Kumar Sarma of Guwahati-IIT to do an in-depth study to find solution to the problem.

 

The meeting discussed the problems with NEEPCO authority, representative of the Central and District committees of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and technocrats from IIT, Guwahati.

 

After detailed discussion gave responsibility to Prof. Arup Kumar Sarma of the IIT to make a study of the NEEPCO project and submit a detailed best technologically-viable report to the state government in consultation with the representatives of AJYCP and NEEPCO authority within one month.

 

Assam government will send the report to the Union Ministry of Power. The meeting further decided to convene next meeting in an appropriate time wherein Central Power Ministry would be requested to send their senior representative so that a positive decision could be taken in this matter.

 

The Chief Secretary requested the representatives of the NEEPCO to find out ways how to solve the devastating situation arises out of Ranganadi Hydel Project and to ensure presence of the Chairman of NEEPCO in the next meeting.

 

Realising the damages caused due to release of excess water from Ranganadi Project, the Chief Secretary further asked the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur to prepare and submit a proposal to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
