Norman Hospital clarifies on doctor
SHILLONG: Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital has clarified that each and every doctor working in the hospital are qualified and registered. In response to a news item published in this daily, the hospital stated that the doctor who was accused of not having qualified the MCI examination is qualified with a valid degree and is registered to practice medicine as stipulated by law. It also condemned the baseless allegations made against the doctor and the hospital. The hospital authority also clarified that it has never utilized the service of any doctor without a valid degree in the past and will always refrain from doing so in future.

Jaintia film gets censor certificate
SHILLONG: The Jaintia film ‘Thong Iong Nga’ (My dreams), produced by Eva-Yan Pictures Production has received the censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on September 14. Directed by Simi Kongtiang, the film stars Pyllaitmitre Lipon(Sam),Regina Lamo,Goldenstar Suchiang (Bahduh)Dame Yoki Dkhar ,Goldbertstar Lakiang and Emidao Shylla.

Petrol shortage in Chokpot irks Students’ body
TURA: The unavailability of petrol for almost over a month at the only petrol pump at Chokpot in South Garo Hills has irked the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and demanded the immediate stocking of the vehicle fuel.Pointing out that the number of vehicle owners in Chokpot had increased over the years the union said that families were suffering in times of emergencies like transportation of medical patients to other places like Tura for treatment. According to the union, it recently met the manager of the petrol pump where they were told that petrol was not being brought in due to damage on a particular bridge.However, the union opposed since diesel is brought in with no problem. GSU also claimed that truck loads of rice were also brought in regularly to the region.The union urged the pump authorities to make petrol available at the earliest and warned that it would resort to a new course of action if it failed to do so.

City colleges spread awareness on dangers of drug abuse
SHILLONG: Actors from Sankardev College, English and Sociology Department, participated with those from Bissau College, K.L.Bajoria and Lady Keane College on the September 16 in M.U.D.A. Shopping Complex, Police Bazaar, in the play “STORM WATCH”.
Written and directed by Naomi Bhuyan, associate professor at Sankardev College, the play aim to spread awareness about the extreme danger of drug abuse which could also lead to human trafficking in a family.
The occasion was organised by the District Legal Services Authority, sessions judge E.Kharumnuid. Participants also included actors from Sadar Police Station, students of Martin Luther Christian University, Professionals Academy and Members of Shillong Bar Association and staff of the Shillong Court.

Boys Sports Company innaugurated
SHILLONG: DS Ahuja, General Officer Commanding, HQ 101 area visited Assam Regimental Centre and interacted with members of Boys Sports Company inaugurated on Sep15 with a strength of 76 boy of age group 11- 14. Selection trials, purely on merit basis, were conducted at the centre for the induction of outstanding sports boys in disciplines like Wushu, Boxing, Hockey and Weight Lifting wef February 8 to February 11, 2017. A total of 76 boys were selected. The participants from different states of the north eastern region had to undergo tests in physical fitness and technical skill in their respective disciplines conducted by Sports Medicine Centre, Pune , SAI coaches and board of officers. The upper age limit was relaxed up to 16 years for sportsman of international/national repute. The selected candidates shall be provided with free boarding and lodging, education from class VI to X in English medium with books, stationery and uniform, daily sports training under the coaches of Sports Authority of India, competition exposure with all expenditure, complete personnel sports kit and equipment and insurance cover including medical and accidental cover.
