JOWAI: The KSU Sahsniang Unit has lodged a complaint with Raliang Police against the Assam PWD for encroachment and trespassing into Jaintia Hills district.

According to complaint, the Assam PWD had come along with bulldozers and building materials and set up a temporary camp near Wyrjiang river to construct an RCC bridge across the river.

“The river passing through Psiar and Moolber village, as per a 1951 survey map, is beyond the disputed area of Block I and the Assam Government has no right to take up any development activities there,” stated the KSU.

“Assam can take up development activities in the disputed area with prior information to the Meghalaya Government but not in the non-disputed area. Psiar and Khatkasla are beyond the disputed area and purely inside Meghalaya,” the KSU added.

The Assam PWD had brought the constructions materials to the river side on Tuesday but due to fear of Karbi Anglong-based militants, none of the locals could raise any objection.

The KSU demanded that the construction work be stopped immediately and requested the Jaintia Police to take stern action against Assam PWD.
