SHILLONG: Describing the Sikkim’s earthquake as a catastrophe that Meghalaya should learn in enhancing the respond capabilities of the disaster management team, Meghalaya chief minister told a gathering of elected representatives and officials of East Khasi Hills district that understanding their hindrance will enable our team to be more prepared in dealing with issues related to natural disaster.

Although he was quite appreciative to the orientation, awareness programmes and drills carried by the department of disaster management, the chief minister strongly felt that there are a number of deficiencies by pointing to the inadequate response to natural calamities such as floods and cyclones in the recent past.

Stating that, “We will sent a team to Sikkim to understand the ground situation during the recent earthquake with an intention to further our disaster management team”, the chief minister said the deficiency cropped up due to lack of co-ordination. (NNN)
