SHILLONG: The NCP on Friday criticised the Congress party for its internal rift saying the recent absence of minister designate SW Rymbai from the swearing-in ceremony shows that the party members are still not happy with the current leadership.

“The absence reflects that nobody wants to work under the current leadership,” NCP leader Conrad Sangma, who had a cordial chat with Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma during the controversial swearing-in ceremony, said on Friday.

Dr Sangma, with the AICC approval, had dropped four ministers known to be in the dissident camp from the Cabinet to rope in AL Hek, Saleng Sangma, Shitlang Pale and SW Rymbai, who did not turn up for the swearing-in but later declared his “support” for the Chief Minister.

Admitting that the situation in the government is slightly better than before the reshuffle, the Opposition Leader said, “Finally something is moving in the State, but I don’t know whether it is moving in the right direction.”

Asked if his party has any plans to make moves for forming an alternative government, he reiterated, “We have not approached anybody and there is no move from our side as we are happy being a constructive opposition.”

Echoing similar views, another opposition party BJP with no MLAs has asked the ruling Congress to settle their issues at the earliest.

“The instability should not affect the development of the State and they should solve the difference immediately,” BJP Meghalaya unit general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty said on Friday.
